i'll admit, i've avoided this awkward food all my life. ever since the magic school bus episode where miss frizzle explains that its a rotten sundried cucumber sitting in a weird juice. {at least that's what 8.yr old chelsea got from it} why have a old, rotten cucumber when you can have the real deal. {i mean cucumbers are the greatest.. serve it up with a little ranch dressing? delectable.} i've managed to steer clear of them {pick them off sandwiches, give away the slice that comes with your meal} until now when i decided to face my fear with this picklely cucumber.
no your eyes aren't playing tricks on you.. thats a GALLON of pickles. only at walmart. and only in the usa.
"i'm sorry, but when do you ever need a pickle the size of your head?"
"i mean when i wake up in the morning the first thing i think about is eating my weight in pickles." pickle lover replies.
so to tackle this feat, i knew i had to imply the help of the pickle-loving bff. {she actually snacks on these. by choice?!??} i'll never understand.
although she "claims" that these are her favorite i'm pretty sure she just choose the nastiest pickles so she could watch me suffer. but i'll give her the benefit of the doubt. {i mean sweet gherkin?! what is that?}

here goes nothing.

HAHAHA really?! Ooh I love pickles. But only one kind, so maybe you got the bad ones!! 'Sweet gherkins' uhhh yeah kind of gross.
ReplyDeleteAlso- you are a genius for buying the post-Valentines flowers, I think I will do the same. Also DISCOUNTED CINNAMON HEARTS! Hurrah! xo
Sad day. My favorite part of a hamburger is the pickle. And I have a cousin who snacks on sweet pickles...she'll literally pull out the jar and eat twenty before she's done. Now that's just crazy. I don't like the sweet ones.
ReplyDeleteyou crazy girl. i LOVE me some pickles. I can eat a jar all to myself. in fact, I used to drink the pickle juice when I finished all the pickles.
ReplyDeleteproblems.
but good, yummy, sour, juicy problems.
you looked so sad eating the pickle :( but your skirt is REALLY cute!
ReplyDeleteand I am one of the crazy people that enjoy pickles. but it has to have a bit of a crunch, and i like plain ol' dills. I can't handle the rest.
Hey, at least you tried! I'm of the school of thought that I'll try anything and worse case scenario you can always spit it out!
ReplyDeletehmmm... now I'm wondering if there is a food eaily found at the grocery store that i've never ever eaten.... Pork rinds? Does that even count as a real food?
Waaiiit!!! You tried the wrong kind. Dill pickles are uh-maz-ing. Sweet pickles-gag. Don't sterotype based on the type she had you try. Try the sour pickles before you hate all pickles. I know you are lover not a hater. And don't discriminate based on size. The bigger the dill, the better. I love cucumbers too. Ranch used to be my fav but now I love them with red wine vinigarette.yuumm. Happy Friday Kooky-gal
ReplyDeleteMmmm PICKLES ARE DELICIOUS! When my cousin and I were little we used to drink pickle juice hahah. At this very moment, though, I am eating a huge cucumber hehe!
ReplyDeletesee, i think i'm going to have to agree with you on this one. i don't like pickles, AT ALL! although i've never tried a dill pickle like that, so kudos for you! :)
ReplyDeletehaha i think you need to try a garlic or dill pickle before you can say you REALLLLLY don't like them. i love garlic pickles and i think sweet ones are disgusting. so...TRY ONE! :)
ReplyDeleteok so here's the story morning glory. my older brothers used to force feed me pickles when i was like 3 years old. i haven't had one since. the smell alone makes me nauseous. and so let me just say i feel you on this one. i will never try one. i just can't do it. more power to you for trying girl!
ReplyDeletechelsea! no! sweet pickles are the WORST! bad idea. you need to try dill. they are the perfect solution to a salty craving.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your traumatic experience! :) However, I'm a pickle girl through and through...maybe try dill? Maybe?
ReplyDeleteaw!! while i feel horrible for you, i must admit that those pictures of you eating that pickle make for magnificent blog material, indeed!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat?! I can't believe you've never eaten a pickle! I love those things! I really LOVE them!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures of you eating the pickle made me laugh though. :)
Me and my brother have this inside joke, if ever I hate something but in a sick way kind of like it too, I say "it's like pickles" and he gets me. They are pretty disgusting, but in a gross kind of way, every once in a while I want one. Sick. I know.
ReplyDeleteI love you blog, by the way. You are too funny :)
ReplyDeleteEW! YOu ate a gherkin! you TOTALLY should have gone with a dill, they are SO MUCH BETTER! Gherkins are gross!
ReplyDeleteGood grief, I can't believe you've never had pickles. (We also call them gherkins, or affectionately, gherks.) I read the title and even got excited thinking that maybe you'd realised your error, and I was going to point you gently towards kosher pickles as a superior variety, but YOU'VE ALREADY DISSED THEM! POOR SHOW CHELSEA GRIFFITH, POOR SHOW.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's a South African thing, but they are really tasty with a big hunk of charred cow, or chopped up really tiny with tuna. Never mind though - this is obviously where we start differing, and the honeymoon period of being new penpals wears off, and we drift apart due to our differences in food tastes. Sniff!
Incidentally I just joined a facebook group called "I bet this pickle can get more fans than Twilight." I guess you won't be joining that.
:P Yes i got your email! I'm posting your letter in the morning! Super keen! x
OH. oh. I like pickles. But they have to be the right kind. and I have to be in the mood.
ReplyDeleteAnd personally...the sweet ones I dislike...with a passion!
I can eat pickles by the gallon... but have to be honest... only Persian Pickles... they are just made differently and I love the spices that they use.
ReplyDeleteYeah, shoot me in the face, but i love pickles... i'm like your bff, i'll eat them by choice :)
ReplyDeleteWeird.
I always try and steal the pickles that come with the meal.
And while I like pickles.. I don't like many vegetables, so judge me as you will.
But that's AWESOME that you've crossed off one more thing on your list!
hahahaha this post made me laugh!
ReplyDeletei love pickles.... in fact when i was little i would seriously eat an entire jar by myself!
Yucky, yucky, I hate pickles too and as well try to avoid them. Ugh, just thinking about them gives me a nauseous kind of feeling. I really don't know how some people can eat them just like that. Those people are brave I suppose. Ha.
ReplyDeleteI do love cucumber though. :)
P.S I laughed at the pics. Super funny faces!
silly lady! while i really love pickles, this post made me laugh! it almost makes me want to cross something off my "never have i" list :)
ReplyDeletea whole pickle? grossss!!
ReplyDeletethough im a little obsessed with pickles on cheeseburgers (only at maccas though... not real ones lol)
and i had completely forgotten about the magic school bus!!!! such a good book : )
I think pickles are one of those foods that if you haven't been eating them your whole life then you'd probably find them weird. But at least you tried!
ReplyDeleteAaaahaha!!! This is too funny!!! OH MY GOODNESS...I LOVE pickles!!! How can you deny their deliciousness??!! haha, I am glad you tried one though, and your friend is so cute as well! Oh totally off topic, but I love your jacket, super cute ;)
ReplyDeleteoh dude ...the sweet one's are nasty ... go for the sour ones next time
ReplyDeletehaha a great post!!
ReplyDeleteWhoa. I love pickles! :) And good for you for trying one! :)
ReplyDeleteXoxo- Emily
I am so with you on that. Pickle is truly ick.
ReplyDeleteI don't know is you watch Hanna Montana (yeah, I do. I'm just that cool!) but there was this one episode when she's eating pickle with peanut butter. May I just say, Ew! ;)
Xx
You are eating the wrong pickles! Dills are where the goodness is at!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with a few of these comments....go for the dill ones ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentines Day!! ;)
Haha I agree with you pickles are just a bit weird. I can eat them but just not by choice. Hope you have a great Valentines day x
ReplyDeleteP.S THANK GOD I actually thought I had mortally offended you by chastising your pickle-hating ways.
ReplyDeleteALSO - I want you to guest post over at mine sometime, maybe after you get my letter (ooooooh) which is on its way :)
Oh my goodness! I love pickles and yes I'm one of those weirdos that snacks on them for pure enjoyment!
ReplyDeleteActually had some today! At least you tried them! :)
i was the SAME WAY about pickles! i always took them off my sandwiches, would never dare eat one of those big ones.
ReplyDeleteit wasn't until i was almost 30 that i simply ate one...or actually had a craving for one. it was fine, but i still don't really eat them. i still take them off my hamburgers!
xoxo alison
